Overview

Day 1: Cusco / Tambomachay / Pumamarca

You will be picked up from your hotel at 5:00 a.m. for the transfer to Tambomachay. Our walk will begin from this point, and we will cross a high plains landscape, as far as the Sicllaccasa pass (4020 meters above sea level). We will walk along a trail leading to the Ccauca ravine, where we will arrive at an area of archaeological remains and local crops such as tarwi, as well as an extensive area of cacti. Continuing towards the Queullococha pass (4185 meters above sea level), around the trail we will have spectacular views of snowcapped peaks, including Veronica, Pitusiray and Chicon. As we approach Lake Queullococha, we will be able to spot Andean geese, ducks and the small fish that inhabit the lake. From here, we will ascend towards Challu Challu pass (4220 meters above sea level). From here, we will be able to see the Chinchero plains and the lakes Piuray and Qoricocha. We will then ascend to the fourth pass at Rumicruz (4230 meters above sea level), from where we will head to the Inca stone quarry (4220 meters above sea level), where the stone was quarried to build Huchuy Qosqo. We will then descend to the village of Pucamarca (4010 meters above sea level), arriving in the late afternoon. After dinner, we will camp here for the night.

Day 2: Huchuy Qosqo / Ollantaytambo / Aguas Calientes

After breakfast, we will descend from our campsite and continue to Huchuy Qosqo. Along the way, we will be able to appreciate the remains of an Inca bridge, and part of an Inca highway. The geology of this canyon is composed of majestic rock formations. Huchuy Qosqo is an Inca archaeological complex containing impressive structures, including a large ceremonial center, from where we can enjoy a panoramic view of the Sacred Valley and the Vilcanota River. After visiting the ruins with our guide and taking photos, we will begin the descent, climbing down for approximately two hours as far as lamay, where we will enjoy a delicious lunch before boarding our transport to the station at Ollantaytambo, where we will board the train to Aguas Calientes. We will spend the night in a pleasant hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 3: Machu Picchu – Cusco

In the early morning, at around 4:30 a.m., we will begin the walk to the majestic Inca city of Machu Picchu, where we will meet with the guide and the rest of the group. Please note: There are two options for the ascent to Machu Picchu; on foot to see the sunrise, very early; or taking the bus. At the ruins, we will receive a guided tour of the site lasting approximately two hours, after which you will have free time to visit the rest of the citadel, including for example the Inca Bridge and the Sun Gate. After leaving the citadel at the time agreed with the guide, we will descend on foot or by bus to the small town of Aguas Calientes, where we will board the return train to the village of Ollantaytambo, where a bus will take us back to the city of Cusco.
